Coming up with a guitar break for Far Away

There's a great Gibson Guitar Ad for Les Pauls from a couple years back. The advertisement focuses a closeup shot of someone playing a Les Paul, and the caption reads "Lyrics- wasted time between guitar solos".
Well, as a guitar enthusiast myself, I sometimes feel that way.. but NOT this time. I really like "Far Away" as a song. It hangs together really well. The composition has a very classic feel to it, but remains fresh and original. So... what to do about a guitar break?
The song moves from a nice quiet intro, to the startling C/B/A/G walk down... and then back to the main progression. The chorus has this really great movement between A and G, which lends to the cool slide part. Then the "telephone voice" part (as Eric put it). The guitar break comes right after one of those "telephone voice" parts. The background is the same as the verse, so... what to put there.
I finally settled on a nice melodic figure and then pumped out a riff towards the end of the song. Then I went back and got all Tom Scholzy, doing a three part harmony guitar part.
I sent the draft to Eric yesterday... waiting to hear what he thinks. He's winging his way to SF right now as I write, so I need to wait on his feedback.
